Let's see, show hands, who here is for making DUI legal? Come on.. .don't be shy... Who in here is for making theft and vandalism legal? Oh come on... don't be like that....
As outrageous as that sounds, it would seem the GOP is all for that sometimes at least when it comes to principle.
Going back to common law, offenses were designed to safeguard boundaries, personal and community boundaries. I don't take what's your's because it belongs to you and it would harm you if I did. We don't harm what belongs to everybody. I can't drive drunk not because I would look bad doing it, but because I could hurt people. I have my rights, but I have no right to hurt you.
So, why is it that polluting at will seems to be a sign of progress and not seen as a social issue, like theft or DUI? No oxygen, no life, quite simple. I will tell you why, because powerful people make money out of it, that's all there is to it. Theft in a way is legal if powerful people do it, look at what the banks do with credit cards and substandard loans. It's the double standard I see with the new Republican party, it's ok if the perpetrator is loaded and can write juicy campaign contributions.
I hear all the time life's precious and sacred. I agree. So, why condemn a kid to die under Santorum's "free market" healthcare system. Is that poor kid not alive because of the fact he's poor? What happened to the sanctity of life? Why is a life less significant if the person is not wealthy? Why is it acceptable to negotiate amnesty for telecoms under PATRIOT ACT by vetoing SCHIP, Bush style?
Why is it acceptable to say kids have to clean up their schools to learn pride and responsibility when the Bush administration can fight two wars off the books and then blame the next administration when it tries to pick up the bill?
How can they call themselves christian when they promote hatred everywhere they go? A congresswoman shot, an attempt against the president, people shot down because they're of a different race, and these people keep shouting reload, reload.. What happened to decency and real Christian values? What happened to Christian values when they are proud to say on the stage that the poor should die if they are not insured? What happened to responsibility when they refuse a mandate to actually show responsibility?
When a well known "pro-life" far right group prints out wanted posters for doctors who provide abortions under law, and that results in at least 2 dead and others injured, how isn't that terrorism? The State Department's definition of terrorism fits that conduct to the letter, and nobody, not one GOP candidate has denounced that. Why? What happened to the strong national security values?
How is it ok to ask a president for a birth certificate when his GOP rival was born in Panama?
How is it ok to ask for grades, statements from fellow students, when the leading GOP candidate won't even release his tax returns?
How is it ok to shout and scream when the word Amnesty comes up for immigrants when the richest of the rich benefit from annual IRS amnesties every year. Isn't the law the law? Or is the law only applicable to minorities and those you don't like?
And most of all, how can you swear to protect and defend the Constitution if you don't know what it says, if you call it a damn piece of paper?
I'm sorry, but I'm not into double standards and frauds, but that seems to be all the new GOP is interested on.
What happened to the party who stood behind reconstruction? What happened to the legacy of Lincoln? What happened to actually believing this country can be better and that a government is FOR the people, meaning for their good, not just for corporations and the Trumps and Romneys of the world? Scare tactics? Is that what they call the legacy of Abraham Lincoln? Socialism?
They say healthcare choices need to be made by a doctor and the patient.. Really? Because under their plans they're not made by docs or patients, they're made by for profit insurance companies, I'm sure they have your best interests in mind... and not the "for profit" part of their business description...
Sickening to see a party degraded to be just slaves of the corporate elite. Sickening to see them sell out red blooded Americans to corporations and the banks.
I don't know where they went wrong, but I do know they're not even close to the shadow of what they used to be. A real shame, but it's a party completely dominated by empty talking points, double standards, greed and intolerance. I hope they can change, but I have my doubts, some very serious ones.
